Risk factors for diarrheal diseases in rural infants and young children in Shaanxi Province and their impact on weight development

Abstract

 A follow-up study on diarrheal diseases among 840 infants and young children under 5 years old in Jinzhong area of Shanxi Province showed that: ①The average incidence of diarrheal diseases was 8.02% person-month. ②The main risk factors for diarrhea in rural infants and young children are poor hygiene habits of children and caregivers, keeping chickens, cats and dogs at home, drinking open water sources, larger family size, artificial feeding, lower living standards and lower motherhood Education level. ③The amount of instantaneous weight loss calculated after balancing confounding factors accounts for 1.5% to 5.0% of the original body weight.
