This article uses two indicators, the Infant Mortality Index (IMI) and the Preventable Death Index (PDI), to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention measures to reduce child mortality in Chongzuo County, Guangxi from 1992 to 1994. IMI dropped from 64th place in 1992, when no intervention measures were implemented, to 55th and 56th place in 1993 and 1994, a drop of 9 and 8 places respectively; PDI also dropped 9 and 8 places respectively. It shows the effect of intervention measures and provides a scientific and feasible model to achieve the main goals of survival, protection and development of Chinese children in the 1990s.
