Breast milk is recognized as the best diet for infants. Breast milk is not only rich in nutrients, but also contains a variety of anti-infective substances, which can effectively protect babies from getting sick or reduce the severity of the disease and enable them to recover early. Here, 141 cases of diarrhea patients admitted to our hospital between October 1993 and February 1994 were collected. The analysis is as follows. 1. Materials and methods Among the 141 cases of infant diarrhea, 84 were male and 57 were female. The minimum age was 7 days and the maximum was 6 months. 44 cases (31.2%) were exclusively breastfed, 37 cases (26.2%) were partially breastfed, and 37 were exclusively artificially fed. 60 cases (42.6%) were fed. 115 cases had watery stools and 26 cases had loose stools. The frequency of defecation was >10 times/day in 63 cases and <10 times/day in 78 cases. There were 56 cases of fever, 49 cases of vomiting, 78 cases of I° dehydration, and 63 cases of II° dehydration. Leukocytes were found in 17 cases and 98 cases of fat globules in stool microscopy. After admission, oral rehydration, digestive aids, Chinese medicine, etc. were used. For II° dehydration, intravenous rehydration was given, acidosis was corrected, supportive therapy was given, and breastfeeding was continued during this period.
