IL-12 and autoimmune diseases
Keywords:
interleukin 12; autoimmunityAbstract
Interleukin (IL)-12 is a heterodimeric molecule with a wide range of biological activities, mainly produced by activated monocytes and macrophages. IL-12 is closely related to autoimmune diseases. On the one hand, it induces and promotes cell-mediated autoimmunity, and on the other hand, it protects the host during specific stages of autoimmune diseases. Blocking the production or signaling of IL-12 can better prevent and treat autoimmune diseases. This article reviews the biological properties of IL-12, its relationship with autoimmune diseases, and its role in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
